This week's St. George Adventure

We found a couple of excuses to make the St. George run this weekend and enjoy a few days of warm weather and sunshine: (1) take Grandma Miller our hospital dolls to include in her Humanitarian Center project(s), (2) climb the red rocks/pick wild flowers (an Eli & Maggie favorite), (3) watch Shaylee perform on the piano in the Bach Festival, (4) visit the Pizza Factory (bread twists) and Iceberg (giant shakes), and (5) play the usual card games with (Great) Grandma & Grandpa (I beat the pants off them all at Frustration Rummy).

Breakfast Birthday Dinner

Ian turned 12 this week - and decided what he wanted for his party was one of Grandpa's famous breakfasts for dinner. My Dad is the BEST at eggs, hash browns, sausage and bacon (and can pull it all off great in mass quantities). We usually only get this treat while at Bear Lake (one of the scenarios when we're together during breakfast time), so we were all thrilled with Ian's request tonight. Stef also threw in crepes, fruit and creme for dessert in place of cake and ice cream. There were no complaints. Happy Birthday Ian!

Note: Dad's "Sunday Chef" apron is historic. He's had it forever. While growing up, Dad made one of his fabulous breakfasts for us every Sunday morning. Definitely a great memory...and one we're glad to be able to still indulge in! I'll admit Eli, Maggie and I still find excuses to sneak up there on Sunday mornings once in a while.

My Sweet Bike!

Skylar just posted these pics of my newly restored 1954 Schwinn American. He surprised me with his "find" in December and has spent the last couple of months getting it all shiny and new. He fortunately found some great white walls to replace the old tires (these are like the originals) and was able to remove most of the rust. Looking forward to a summer of cruising! Thanks Sky!!

Hospital Buddy Dolls

To help Grandma Miller's current service project, Mom decided to get us together tonight to do our share by making dolls which are given to children in hospitals (the style with generic bodies and hospital gowns that they then color to personalize, add band-aids, etc.).

Mom cut and sewed all the bodies so our main assignment was to stuff and then stitch the last hole closed. I was assigned "hospital gown cutting" duty while she did the major sewing. (The last picture is one of her recent projects.) Everyone got to participate and enjoyed the excuse to get together. We love our family.

Cabin Fever

Needing to get some energy out, we decided to squeeze in a little climbing at iRock - one of our favorite activities. Eli did his usual biz and climbed right to the top in no time. He spent a little more time bouldering today and tested his abilities without the rope. Maggie - for the first time - let me put a harness on her and belay her climbing. She did awesome! As I've seen a number of times, she will do anything...as long as it's on HER time or when SHE decides. Hmm. Sounds familiar.
